The beauties of Nature, wild animals and plants, history and culture... The national parks of Japan protect and preserve the country's environment and scenery, treasures unequalled in the world. As of March 2017, 34 areas, spreading from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa and the Bonin Islands in the south, are designated as a National Park of Japan. Since July 2016, The Ministry of the Environment has been carrying out the "Visit National Park!" project. Initiatives to attract foreign visitors are being implemented at eight selected national parks around the country. In order to introduce the attractions of the parks and the characteristics of the initiatives, this program focuses on Keramashoto National Park and Nikko National Park.
